The European Commission plans to promote the use of cloud computing services by the public and private sectors in the EU. However, it does not intend to put in place a European ‘super cloud’ according to Europolitics, in a new draft communication. According to the report, the Commission aims to be more of an examination of actions to carry out in order to foster secure, predictable and open cloud services. In particular, the Commission intends to work on developing safe and fair contractual terms. Cloud computing technology allows the storage and treatment of data on external servers as well as providing access to data in real time from anywhere in the world. The Commission is convinced that the cloud will create growth and believes that its potential should be exploited. This, says the Commission, is mainly because the use of cloud services can allow enterprises to reduce costs in the field of information and technology and to create new services.
