South Africans commute with contactless

ASK and Muvoni, its South Africa partner, have announced that they have renewed their contract with the Bombela Operating Company for the next 3 years. ASK stated it provided the contactless Golden card since 2010 FIFA World Cup, date of the launching of the Gautrain project. Based on NXP MifareTM Classic chips, the Gautrain Gold Card enables the holder to load a variety of different journey products, ranging from single ‘Pay As You Go’ trips, seven day passes and to 35-day passes, onto the same card and to reload the card. As interoperability’s needs grow throughout all cities worldwide, Johannesburg took this requirement into account in its ticketing system implementation, according to Muvoni. Gautrain’s train, bus and parking services are all fully integrated and may be used separately or jointly by transferring from one to another with the Gautrain Gold Card. Travellers can circulate between Johannesburg, Tshwane and OR Tambo International Airport, with various stops along each route.
