New face for integrated automatic passport checks
Cognitec is responding to high demand for fast, accurate face recognition solutions at border control points by introducing a new product that combines smart hardware for image acquisition with market-leading software for verification processes. FaceVACS-Entry is ready for integration into electronic gates (eGates) which provide travelers with electronic passports (ePassports) the option to pass through automatic passport checks. After a person enters the gate, the system detects the person’s face, adjusts the position of the cameras according to the person’s height and then captures frontal images. The software instantly verifies the live images against biometric photos stored in passports, other ID documents and/or facial image databases. A proprietary sensor detects presentation attacks.

The supervisory bodies of both companies, the G&D shareholders and the Federal Ministry of Finance, owner of Bundesdruckerei approved the joint venture.
Second generation vision verification for central issuance
Datacard has launched a second generation Datacard MX Series Vision Verification Module that is designed to automatically ensure proper card stock is loaded prior to card issuance as well as verify printed elements after personalization is complete. This technology complements the numerous checks and balances already in place as the card passes through the personalization process. Designed to work inline with the MX Series card issuance systems, the enhanced Vision Verification Module utilizes a high resolution camera installed in the module to capture an image of the card stock in order to locate and verify unique identifiers. Streamlined software increases image processing speed and allows operators to set granular threshold limits.
Biometric personalization systems to renew Algeria’s passports
IAI industrial systems has received a new order from the Algerian Ministry of the Interior of two IAI BookMaster One latest generation machines and one laminator module, in order to renew the non-biometric Algerian passports by November 2015. The systems will be supplied in 2014. In the past, IAI has already delivered two BookMaster One systems and one machine for the application of ImagePerf and NumberPerf for the production of Algerian biometric passports.
BookMaster One systems perform the entire personalization of the passport in one pass through the machine including verification of all operations performed. Thus, the systems turn blank books, inserted in the machine, into fully personalized passports ready for issuing. The BookMaster One has a modular setup which enables customers to procure and employ the total functionality of the systems or parts of it, all at once or in phases.
