Entrust Datacard overlays durability for secure ID
Entrust Datacard has added holographic overlay to its secure ID line which the company says offers four times the durability of traditional topcoats. The DuraShield holographic overlay protects important elements of ID cards using a thin film consisting of layers of unique polymer coatings cured with an ultra violet light, according to Datacard. The company added because the overlay extends the life of ID cards up to five years, it reduce the costs of re-issuance.
China enhances security for online eID
China’s Ministry of Public Security has developed tighter eID algorithms which it says will enhance cardholders’ online security. New eID cards from the ministry use an algorithm called Guomi SM2 which employs security techniques approved by the State Security Cryptography Administration Office, according to news reports. The algorithm is included in a chip-enabled eID, enables owners to shop online and check their purchases without submitting their name, address, phone number or personal information.
Morpho wins Slovakian contract
Morpho is to supply the Slovak Republic with electronic identity cards (eIDs) which will allow citizens to securely and conveniently use electronic government services. The delivery of the polycarbonate cards with integrated contact-based crypto controller will start in February 2015. Over the following three years Morpho will produce more than 2 million eID cards for Slovakia. Morpho is already supplying most of the other official secure documents for the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic: the supplier delivers 300,000 passports with complete booklet and poly-carbonate data pages per year, and in addition also the Slovakian vehicle registration cards and resident permits.
