InkSure Technologies, a provider of machine-readable anti-counterfeiting solutions, has announced the introduction of high security taggants approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for direct food contact to the company’s anti-counterfeiting product line. Taggants, machine-readable chemical markers, are a mature and proven technology used for brand protection and anti-counterfeiting by brand owners and governments. The FDA approved taggants are ideal for protecting prescription and non-prescription drugs, expensive food items and specialty beverages as well as other commonly counterfeited consumables. They can be incorporated into blister packaging, induction seals on bottles, the inside of shrink wraps, foil seals and other packaging materials that come into direct contact with food and pharmaceuticals. According to InkSure, over the last four years, the organization using its taggants estimates that more than $400 million in additional revenues were recovered due to the ability of inspectors to easily identify counterfeit items.
